My child was immunised overseas, what I should do? Transcribing overseas records

If your child has received vaccines overseas, these will need to be recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR, previously known as ACIR). Your child may require additional vaccines to meet the Australian National Immunisation Program schedule.

Your GP may be able to transcribe your child's overseas immunisation history and provide a catch up schedule if required. Your GP can also advise you on vaccinations required for your child to meet the Australian National Immunisation Program schedule.

In order to record these vaccinations on the Australian Immunisation Register you will need to provide the following information:

  • Child’s full name (format - first last)

  • Date of Birth (format- DD/MM/YYYY)

  • Copy of immunisation history either in English or translated. We are unable to translate immunisation records at ACT Health. If you need your documents translated, please contact a Translation Centre.

  • Medicare card number (if you have one)

  • Parent’s name

  • Contact phone number

  • Postal address

Our nurses can enter the details onto the Register and provide you with details of any further immunisations required. Please be aware that this service can take up to four weeks to be finalised before you will be able to see the immunisations as updated on the Register. Their contact number is 1800 653 809. It is not possible to speed up this process; once the data has been entered by our nurses the staff at the AIR will finalise the record and reconcile with Medicare. If there are Family Payment issues you will need to discuss these with Medicare. Their contact number is 132 011.
